West Prairie FFA member Coye Bunnell, a senior, earned top honors in the Illinois FFA State Poultry Evaluation Career Development Event, finishing first overall with a score of 473. He edged out the second-place competitor by four points.

Bunnell’s victory marks the culmination of three years of dedication, hard work, and preparation. “I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my coach, past teammate, and great friend Adam Vail,” Bunnell said. He also expressed gratitude to Sam DeCounter and Alison McGrew for their support throughout his journey.

In addition to Bunnell’s individual success, the West Prairie poultry team also achieved statewide recognition, placing second overall. Team members included Bunnell, Will Phelps, Schuyler Cutsinger, Payton McGrew, and Eli DeCounter.

The Poultry Evaluation CDE tests students on their ability to evaluate live poultry, carcasses, and eggs, as well as their knowledge of industry standards and grading practices.

An assembly was held during advisory on Wednesday, April 30 to celebrate and recognize their good news.
