West Prairie High School recently celebrated its Homecoming with a Disney theme, featuring a full week of fun activities and school spirit. Events included Powder Puff, Iron Man, the parade, an assembly, the football game and court presentation, and of course, the dance.
During the parade, each class designed a float inspired by a different Disney movie. The float themes were:
- Freshmen: Monsters Inc.
- Sophomores: Finding Nemo
- Juniors: Cars
- Seniors: Toy Story
The senior class took first place in the float competition, followed by the sophomores in second, juniors in third, and freshmen in fourth.
One highlight of the week was the Powder Puff game, where girls from each grade played flag football while the boys served as coaches. The seniors took first place, juniors came in second, freshmen finished third, and sophomores placed fourth.
Iron Man, the boys’ volleyball competition, was another spirited event. The sophomores won first place, followed by the juniors, seniors, and freshmen.
The Homecoming football game was held on October 11, with the West Prairie Cyclones defeating Galva with an impressive 60–20 victory. The Homecoming Court was also introduced at the game:
- Freshmen: Brylee Elliott and Kendrick Welsh
- Sophomores: Carlee Jackson and Braden Coplan
- Juniors: Alexa Barkley and Emanuel Barrientos
- Seniors: Ethan Qualls and Cloe Winkler
Before the dance, students gathered for the Homecoming Assembly, where all four classes competed in various games and challenges. A crowd favorite was Mr. Cyclone, a humorous event where boys dressed up and performed dance routines while being judged. This year’s Mr. Cyclone representatives were:
- Freshman: Collin Cerven
- Sophomore: Brexten DeJaynes
- Junior: Brody Cordell
- Senior: Coye Bunnell
The week concluded with the Homecoming Dance, held at West Prairie High School. There was food, music, dancing, and plenty of fun. Freshman court member Brylee Elliott shared her thoughts on the experience:
“Homecoming was fun, especially because Kendrick and I have gone to every dance together. Homecoming was very stressful, but I don’t regret getting as involved as I was because it was so much fun. I loved all of it—being on the court, helping set up, student council, the dance, getting dressed up, having two dates, and Collin’s last-minute Mr. Cyclone performance. I can’t pick one thing that was my favorite.”
