Ready for some friendly rivalry and Harry Potter–themed school spirit? The Powder Puff game kicks off tonight!

When & Where:
Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.
18575 East 800th Street, Sciota, IL 61475

This year’s Homecoming theme is Harry Potter, and each class will be showing off their house spirit with themed shirts:

  • Seniors (Class of 2026): Gryffindor – Maroon & Gold
  • Juniors (Class of 2027): Ravenclaw – Blue & Gold
  • Sophomores (Class of 2028): Slytherin – Green & Silver
  • Freshmen (Class of 2029): Hufflepuff – Yellow & Black

Powder Puff is one of West Prairie’s most spirited Homecoming traditions. Expect face paint, energy, and plenty of smiles as eight girls from each grade compete in a series of flag football games. Each of the four games will be 12 minutes long.

Best of all—it’s FREE to attend! Concessions won’t be available, so fans are welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks.

Meet the Teams

Seniors – Class of 2026
Captain Austin Nelson expressed confidence in his team:

“This year I feel like we will win because we have a pretty good team and other teams don’t look very good.”

Senior Madelynn Sullivan echoed that confidence:

“Our class may be smaller than the rest, but we all feel really good about the game. We were in the championship last year and blew our chances, but this year the competition seems easier. Overall, we are very confident we will come out with a big win.”

The seniors have steadily climbed in rankings. Below is the senior class’ history of powderpuff rankings:

  • Freshman Year – 4th place
  • Sophomore Year – 3rd place
  • Junior Year – 2nd place

This year, they’re aiming for the top spot.

Juniors – Class of 2027
Captain Eli DeCounter is hopeful for improvement after two 4th-place finishes:

“I think we will be better than the past two years.”

Player Emily Martin shared her excitement:

“I feel like it is going to be fun but also hard. I think our grade will probably get 3rd this year. I have high hopes because we have been practicing in PE a lot.”

Sophomores – Class of 2028
Captain Cade Chambers is confident in his team’s potential:

“We ended up 3rd last year. If we all stay engaged, we’ll be in good shape to take 1st or 2nd this year.”

Player Ashlynn Kelley added:

“I’m super excited about the game! I had a lot of fun last year, and I think this year we’ll get 2nd place.”

With over 15 sophomores signed up, this class is bringing both numbers and determination.

Freshmen – Class of 2029
The freshmen are entering Powder Puff with bold energy. Zander Ford predicts a 1st-place finish, while teammate Alyvia Barkley is focusing on both competition and fun:

“Honestly, I believe in us freshmen and I think we can win, but we just have to play with intensity and have fun. Having fun is the thing we need to focus on because this is a one-year thing we’re lucky to do.”

Come Join the Fun!

We encourage everyone to come out, cheer on the players, and fill the bleachers with Cyclone spirit. With friendly rivalries, Harry Potter pride, and plenty of entertainment, this year’s Powder Puff game is sure to be a highlight of Homecoming Week.
